Karate is more than just a sport; it is a way of life. It involves discipline, perseverance, endurance, effort, athleticism, co-ordination, confidence and enthusiasm.
This club began back in 1999 when Chief Instructor David Bernard was operating the club. At that time it was part of Clayfield College and on Sensei David Bernard’s retirement, moved to its current location at Bar Jai Community Centre.
Sensei David Bernard has been practicing karate for over 25 years and jiujitsu for 15 years. He is a fifth dan black belt in Shukokai Karate and 1st Dan in JiuJitsu. His background is a teacher and a Uniting church minister with many years of teaching at Clayfield College as Chaplain. He currently has Ren-shi level karate instructor grade, which is the Japanese world-wide instructor grading syllabus. He is also a member of Senior Instructor World Combat Association and a Senior Instructor and Senior Coach with Martial Arts Australia, the Peak Industry Body. AKF Bronze Coach
Sensei Chloe Hartnett is a 4th Dan Shou-doin with 25 years Karate experience. Sensei Chloe is also a Registered Senior Instructor and Coach with Martial Arts Australia, the Peak Industry Body.
